RUB Central - Ruhr University Bochum, Reorganisation of the University‘s central axis, Bochum (GER)

The aim was to change the situation as it is today into a vivid, welcoming and well-arranged ensemble. Good orientation, short ways and places for communication, concentration and distraction shall be provided.

Central iconic architectural items, giving identity to the whole area were to be kept and strengthened in their appearance.

Flush mounted uplights in the pavement, guiding students, visitors and employees along the central axis of the University will serve as a clear guidance, day and night.

The central plaza, between the iconic Auditorium and the Library building is amplified. The complete ensemble is now strengthened and liberated from redundant and disturbing ballast. All access is levelled and barrier-free.
