ethical

  • The previously used traffic area will be returned as publicly available space to the citizens
  • Infrastructure node becomes a public place with urban quality
  • Path optimization for pedestrians at Heinrich-Heine-Platz
  • Separation of traffics and pedestrians
  • Accessibility

ecological

  • Use of existing infrastructures and constructions
  • Wooden construction as outdoor staircase with viewing platform in roundabout (renewable resources)
  • Roundabout to reduce noise and air pollution
  • Observation platform with solar cells gains energy during the day for the night illumination of the Heinrich-Heine-Galerie
  • Rainwater is getting collected and used to water the plants
  • Natural ventilation and illumination
  • Concept follows the cradle to cradle principle
  • Circular design

efficient

  • The modular construction at Heinrich-Heine-Platz enables prefabrication, rapid assembly and complete demolition or reuse
  • Construction can be operated with low energy

Info

On behalf of Forum Stadt-Marketing Düsseldorf e.V., we have worked out precise ideas on how to make the city centre of Düsseldorf fit for the future. The vision of a Boulevard from Pempelforter Straße to the Rhine got a deeper examination. Today, the Heinrich-Heine-Platz is a central transport hub with high frequency. This situation is an almost insurmountable barrier for visitors to the city centre. Our vision: The transformation of a pure infrastructure node into a public place with urban qualities and a good pedestrian connection between Königsallee and Altstadt. Primarily, the transformation is achieved by consistently separating road traffic from pedestrian traffic. The flow of traffic on the road is liquefied aboveground via a roundabout. Pedestrians will be able to cross the road via the lower, naturally illuminated and ventilated level.
