Info

A historic building opens its doors to tell new stories. After standing empty for many years, the former Royal State Archive on Stockkampstrasse in Düsseldorf is being repurposed as apartments for residents with a variety of lifestyles. The heritage-protected building is being modernized by revitalizing it ecologically using recyclable and sustainable materials without altering its historical features.

As part of the renovation work, solar panels will be installed on the southern roof; the roof will be insulated between and below the rafters. Due to the central location of the building, the windows of the 28 apartments will have a higher sound insulation class. In order to preserve its historical qualities and its environmentally friendly design, the area will remain car-free with the exception of one parking space for people with reduced mobility, and 64 bicycle parking spaces will be provided.

In addition to the peace and tranquillity of their apartments, residents will be able to enjoy their leisure time and socialize in the garden or common room. From an ethical, ecological and efficient perspective, a vacant historic building is being given a new face for a sustainable future.
