Re(association): Sustainable reconstruction of a historic soccer team club
S.C. Schwarz-Weiß 06 e.V., a non-profit soccer club over 100 years old, has united people of different nationalities throughout its long history. The club has witnessed the economic and social growth of the city of Düsseldorf, survived two world wars and constantly rebuilt itself. But in October 2018, the club was dealt a heavy blow when the clubhouse fell victim to arson. Since then, the teams have had to move into temporary containers. The other facilities of the club have also been housed there since then.
The club building is being reconstructed according to ethical principles: The aim is to improve leisure opportunities for members, increase comfort and bring a historic symbol back to life. The construction project will include 5 changing rooms with adjoining showers and toilets, business rooms for youth and senior sections, an adjoining meeting room, an apartment for the groundskeeper and catering facilities with a warm kitchen and a large outdoor terrace.
The sports association is located in Südpark in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk and is structurally and designedly integrated into the grounds of the former Federal Garden Show of 1986. The massive building shell is topped with a modern timber construction and provided with green roofs. The continuous suspended wooden façade cladding combines original and new building elements. Together with the Stoffeln cemetery, the neighboring allotment gardens, the range of playgrounds and open spaces, the development plan area has been identified as particularly valuable in the biotope report due to its large contiguous areas, the old trees and the diversity of the various biotope complexes.
